The Wedgetailed Eagle is a native of Australia and is about the fourth largest eagle in the world. It is protected in Tasmania, but in Western Australia a bounty is paid for every bird killed.
It frequents both open country and timbered ranges, nesting in rugged tree-clad hills ... building a large structure of branches and sticks where the one or two eggs are laid, usually in winter. This eagle will also build in low bushes when other trees are not available, on rock ledges in the mountains, on sea cliffs or amongst low rocks on secluded islands.
