About the Rainbow Lorikeet

The Rainbow Lorikeet Trichoglossus haematodus moves in flocks in many parts of Australia and Papua New Guinea. Even in cities it can be seen in abundance, especially at dusk when they noisily settle in trees by the thousands. Easily tamed, they make an ideal house pet, eating mainly fruit.

One I had as a pet on Manus Island never had its wings clipped and was never caged; it would fly with its wild friends and return home on command.
