Leonardi's Farm is situated near the Cook Highway, approximately 11 kilometres (7 miles) North of Cairns in Queensland, Australia.
This beautiful old Queenslander is, nowadays, a relic of days gone by. It was built in the canefields adjacent to the Barron River in 1929, and has withstood several cyclones despite the lack of nails used in its construction. In 1929 nails were a very scarce commodity in Far North Queensland and their use in this building was extremely limited.
The property and homestead were purchased in 1954 by brothers Sam and Angelo Leonardi. When Angelo married Pearl he bought his brother's share of the property and the pair continue to live there to this day.
When driving North of Cairns, glance Southwards at Thomatis Creek and you will see the homestead set in the picturesque canefields, but only when the cane is low.
