The name Rosella is said to be derived from the fact that Rosellas, or 'Rosehill Parrots', were first seen and named in the Rose Hill district of Sydney, Australia.
The Crimson Rosella, Platycercus elegans, is one of the best known of the group and a great favorite with bird fanciers and breeders.
The females are not as large as the males and of a less brilliant colour. They nest in a hole in a tree.
